Chapter 343: Execution
Author Note: As noted in the tags, this chapter contains excessive and cruel depictions.
But I thought it necessary for the sake of the story.
(TL: You cannot see the tags here. So sorry)
After that, Glass spoke of a representative of several small countries in the peace talks to come.
The ones who were to become new residents of our world seemed a little bit lost, but having understood the situation, they had no choice but to accept it.
“Then to protect the world from the wave, let us take each other’s hands and proceed forward.” (Trash)
Trash acts as our rep, as he shakes Glass’s hand. Negotiations ended without a hitch.
Well, due to differences in language, I don’t think we’ll be getting along too well, but that’s no different for us.
This and that happened, and we solved some peace-related problems.
Next is…
“S-STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!”
The day after the peace talks, the one who declared the World his own property, the Fake Hero who plotted for World Domination, Tact, and his conspirators, were scheduled to have their public execution.
Due to the prestige of the Four Heroes, and the fact that we had all the vassals gathered to start with, it ended up that we were all forced to watch.
The Dark Guild of Zeltburg, which was experienced in putting on showy executions, offered to carry it out… but it ended up so that it was carried out by our allied nations.
The method itself was proposed by Zeltburg, and it received approval among the other country’s leaders.
I flip through the document to see what sort of method it was as well.
Trash is… sporting a face that seems it will break out into tears in at any moment. Despite how rotten she is, he’s still being forced to watch his own daughter’s execution.
When I caution him, he loosens his clenched fist and sullenly nods.
“Iwatani-dono… you have no need for worry. I won’t use my authority to halt the execution.” (Trash)
I find the sight of him silently consenting to his daughter’s death with a pale face to be quite pitiful.
Now then, about the method…
After he was defeated by me, Tact had his level reset at the Hourglass before he could regain consciousness.
Of course, his harem included.
It seems that the young women fought in protest, but Ren, Sadina, and Firo were able to arrest them.
The result: the squad with the lowest at level 250 was brought down to a pitiful group of Level 1s. They can barely even move.
Well, there seems to have been a few militaristic-type women among them, so a few of them might be able to perform some action.
There’s also… we also smoked out any women in Faubley who would rise up for Tact’s sake.
Faubley has lost to Melromark!
Before we spread that information, we proclaimed Tact’s victory and invited all of Tact’s Harem to come to Melromark to celebrate. And they sure did gather.
It seems that we captured Rat’s rival, the little girl in a lab coat, as well.
Just how many did we gather?
Just in case, I put Motoyasu in charge of apprehending them.
“There were so many pigs. How filthy.” (Motoyasu)
Is what he said.
It’s hard to imagine that there was a time when he would flirt with any woman he met.
And what sort of method did Zeltburg devise…
Tact’s head and arms have been locked in a strong board so can do nothing but walk, and in order to bind his movement, he has shackles carefully attached to his feet.
The only part of his body he can control is his eyes.
It may be a bit severe, but as long as we don’t know what strange powers he possesses, we have to be careful.
“KYAAAAAAAAAAH-”
And in front of the immobile Tact, we display various executions one by one, starting with burning at the stake. Then water torture, hanging, guillotine, the Phalaris Bull, shooting brigade, drawn and quartered, being run over.
Death by various forms of Magic, administration of lethal poison, mauling by monsters, the scenery repeats over and over again, from dawn to dusk.
Sadina’s Lightning Magic was amazing.
She seemed proficient with it, and without killing them, she skillfully put her targets on the borderline between life and death.
From the beginning, the country carried out the will of the church. As Tact besmirched the name of all Heroes, his crimes were quite heavy.
And while all of that was happening, the citizens were lugging rocks at Tact’s static body.
The concept was to kill Tact after his heart had been completely broken.
And that’s what was happening.
Well, he did plot to overturn the world, and on top of killing Heroes, he proclaimed to have been the chosen one after parading around his stolen Holy Weapon, which was found out to be a fake.
In this world, where the Hero Faith runs so deep, he had become a target for a lot of pent up aggression.
And the one they believed in turned out to be a fake, so…
While remaining powerless, Tact desperately calls out to the women heading to the gallows. He calls their names one at a time.
From his neck, elbows, and ankles, blood flows from his attempts to break free.
“Gu-…u… please… stop! If you need to kill someone, then aren’t I enough!? Why must they be killed-” (Tact)
Hahh… (TL: No, this is not a laugh)
I let out a sigh of depression. Again and again.
“How many times must I say it!? Your crimes aren’t so light that they can be made up for by killing someone like you!”
The Executor in front of Tact declares as such.
And he hits Tact’s face with his bludgeon before casting recovery magic on him.
Keeping him alive with healing magic as they torture him. It’s a method only possible in a parallel world.
Though I shouldn’t be saying anything, as I did it to the man as well.
“… It really isn’t something good for the eyes.”
As I was sitting in the chair specially made for me at the Execution Ground, Glass calls out to me.
I understand how she feels.
Even if he’s Atlas’s killer, having a stranger conduct such a cruel execution on him is… I guess when I’m the observer, it feels like this.
I thought this during the coop d’état performed by the Three Hero Church as well.
I guess this just means I’m still a man of the modern era.
I can’t look at execution scenes with pleasure. I must still be soft.
“That’s right… but, the responsibility of making a toy out of the world is too much to push on him alone.” (Naofumi)
Tact’s parents, starting with his mother, and all of his relatives were executed.
His father… did he not have one?
I don’t really know, but it seems he’s already dead.
The one who was just killed was his sister.
『Please save me, Onii-ch-』
It was impalement this time.
I didn’t want to watch, and if I heard her death throes, it would merely give me nightmares.
I can’t understand having this shown as entertainment, but my world apparently had a time where this was popular, so I can’t really criticize.
More importantly, I have no obligation to save them.
“I do understand it in my head, but not my heart. In order to protect my own world, I have caused the collapse of others…” (Glass)
“If you were able to look upon this scene as something natural, then you truly would be insane. I guess you’re still normal. And if you think too hard about it, it will affect you in battles to come.” (Naofumi)
“… That is… true.” (Glass)
By the way, Glass is also assisting in the executions.
What exactly she’s assisting in will be made clear shortly.
Tact turned his eyes filled with hatred towards me countless times today.
I stand up and approach him.
“Were you under the belief that prisoners of war were to be handled with care?” (Naofumi)
“Of course! There’s no way a Hero would be able to forgive something like this! You fake, who’s stolen all my weapons!” (Tact)
“I was wondering what you would say… don’t you know? Of the people you’ve killed, the most distinguished one was the Queen of Melromark. That means Melromark’s acting to restore their honor.” (Naofumi)
“What are you talking about?” (Tact)
Tact tilts his head, with an expression implying that he’s being made fun of.
He better choose his words carefully…
Well, it’s fine, is it not? Shall I teach this pitiful reincarnated?
“You and your followers are the detested enemy of this country, so is it not natural that they would want to execute you all? Being a Hero isn’t relevant to any of it. Especially not to a prisoner of war.” (Naofumi)
To put it bluntly, this is an era where the representative of the losing party and his cabinet get killed.
Melromark ain’t a republic. It’s a monarchy.
It has a Pyramid-like organization of power.
And he killed the top.
It’s easy to imagine what would happen if he lost a war against this country.
“Were you thinking the world was getting freed from oppression through your actions? For that selfish ideal, just how much blood did you get on your hands? As long as you were satisfied, you didn’t care what it was you got your hands in. It’s time for you to pay the bill. It’s your punishment for readily calling the world yours for the taking.” (Naofumi)
“I’ll kill you! Even if I’m reduced to nothing but my head! Even if all that remains is my soul, I’ll kill you!” (Tact)
“… Let me give you the words of a literary strategist from my world. 『Those who are allowed to shoot are only those with the resolve to get shot』. Just how many people died by your hand? Were killed by the firearms you built with your own hands? Is it possible that you don’t have the resolve to take on the resentment of those that got involved in your schemes and died?” (Naofumi)
(TL: This line is given by Philip Marlowe, but the Japanese translation is used by Lelouch Vi Britannia in episode 1 (21:28) before he orders the troops to kill themselves. The original line is ‘Take my tip-don’t shoot [guns] at people, unless you get to be a better shot,’ but the people who translated it gave it a different connotation. (Source: Moto-neta))
If I ever were to lose, then I’ll lose everything, starting with Raphtalia.
Well, since this Fake Hero is the way he is, he’d probably spare any woman with a nice face… and brainwash them after violating them, but there definitely would have been a massacre like this from his side.
I understood that from the start, and I had the resolve to kill.
And, I swore it to Atlas… and to all the villagers who lost their lives.
I’d definitely take revenge.
I came here prepared to do anything, no matter how cowardly or vile it was.
I’m sure they never wished for such a thing, but still, I have no intention of stopping.
I may be extremely caught up in my own pride… but it’s not like I’m standing here alone.
If this cruel execution is to be my crime, then I’ll go to hell, or wherever, once it’s over.
At the very least, I don’t think I’m bound for heaven…
And wait, I need to go pick a fight with that bastard up there.
Heaven must be hell too.
“You’re just facing the punishment for your selfish crimes. Accept it. If you win, you’re the exalted new order. If you lose, you’re the filthy rebel scum.” (Naofumi)
“DON”T SCREW WITH ME!” (Tact)
“Shut up!”
The executioner gags Tact with a rag.
Tact’s eyes are losing their color. It looks like he’s about to shed tears of blood.
No, his tears are already stained with a hint of red. I think his tear glands are broken.
So humans can withstand this much without breaking.
These thoughts run through my mind.
Well, I’m also fed up with the piercing cries echoing behind me.
“A…ah…”
Oh? It’s the lab coat little girl. Yep, she fits the description to the point.
I can only see her as a kid playing at being a doctor.
So they brought her along… but what’s that? That culture tank beside her?
A stairway had been built, and she was forcefully herded to the top.
“S-sto-”
When she was pushed forward, the lab coat girl drops into the tank.
“Gaboboboboboooooboooho-”
A large amount of bubbles build up.
A sulfuric acid dive?
I step backwards.
The one proposing these seems to be Zeltburg, but… I don’t really want to get involved with that country.
It’s a shitty country that earns money by putting on these shows as entertainment.
“N______________________________!” (Tact)
Tact tries to call out.
Eventually…
Yeah, no. It’s probably best not to talk about it.
If I had to say something, she got the magical creature bad end.
“Now then, the next event is…”
When I was sick of it all, a special program that caught my interest comes up.
What is it, you ask?
Witch, and a few women, enter the stage.
(TL: I dunno, I’m just a lowly translator you know.)
:O well he deserved it

My opinion on the matter is : if u schemes world domination and in process makes some crimes then be prepared for the same be done to u multiplayed many times more in case u lose. When u fuck with people people will not show mercy. If u fuck with family and people close to someone then be prepared for your family to be done the same and even more. What the problem if family or friends are innocent/didn’t helped him? They are guilty crime of not stoping him from doing bad things.

yeah, right…
in my own religion, God don’t show mercy on us if we do a bad things and if one or two people in the family doesn’t stop us for doing bad then all of the family members is at fault for not stopping us. And God give punishment to the family member although the punishment isn’t as heavy as the one who did the bad things

If that is your religion, you can keep it. I could understand believing in a benevolent God, but a malevolent one? No thanks.

Agreed, he deserved it, for the killing of so many people, the attempt to overthrow the world, and being a Fake Hero, kill his harem in front of him to the last and let Zeltburg’s Dark Guild handle the methods.
Although I must say, Death by Slime? oh well, monsters got to eat.
LikeLike
Was killing some of them really necessary though? His family didn’t really have a reason. *shrug. He himself definitely deserved it though. Anyone who contributed (through research/technology) or was on the battlefield also did.

His family gave him the means to advance in the world to where it was possible to over throw the king, if not for their position he might not have had such an easy time. Thus they deserve death too. Not to mention the fact that his families blood line may be one that is catered to creating reincarnated heroes, so best to wipe it out just to be on the safe side.
LikeLike
@Darkanlan: It is not certain that the family are guilty; there’s no mention of any trial, let alone one that proved guilt beyond doubt. That being the case, they have essentially murdered potentially innocent people, even if they had cause (to prevent the possibility of re-incarnation, amongst others). That being so, I ask you: Is a certain evil better than an uncertain one?

So… I understand the necessity of killing Tact’s family
1. Insure no one inherits/holds up Tact’s banner in the future which would spark another war of attrition.
2. Fully break Tact.
But seriously?! Death by impalement? If she was an innocent then a quick death would have sufficed. Rather than the unforgivable torturous end that she had received.
On a side note: Which hero was Tact originally? Claw or Whip? And what was the skill of said weapon that allowed him to acquire/steal the other legendary weapons? Or was it an innate ESP power?
LikeLiked by 1 person
id wager more than likely he wasnt a hero at all initially and used his stealing power to take the claw and name himself a hero, then proceed to kill the others. i cant imagine ANY of the weapon spirits to ever willingly give him their power as hes a “genius” that is essentially a hero’s total enemy.

er whip i meant, he was initially mentioned to be the hero of the whip when introduced then used the claw on actual appearence.

Well, main purpose of public executions in ancient times are to get rid everyone who can take a revenge for the prisoners and to warn other citizens that ‘don’t you dare to do crimes like these prisoners did’.
But if you thought that what’s happening in this ch. are cruel, there is something call ‘Nine familial exterminations’ in ancient China. A real nightmare, if you ask me.

I understand killing his allies. That’s just how war is: you capture the allies of the leader of a rebellion, you’re going to have to punish all of them.
Executing his mother and little sister was a little bit harsh and unnecessary. Did they play any part in it? I don’t think they fought…

Little sister was part of the harem army, mother wasn’t mentioned.

The populace just wanted justice and revenge for the death of their families during the war. The mother had nothing to do with the war, but the people wanted to make Tact suffer. Either that or that’s Zeltburg’s method of torture.

I thought this mainly for:-
1. break Tact into a mess
2. calm the rage of many countries’ citizen and leaders, because, as Naofumi said, Tact’s crimes are too heavy to just execute only him (like the executions in ancient times)

This execution will either be heavily edited, mentioned of screen or removed. The thing is, we’re reading the Web novel where the author has total freedom on his story. But if you want to venture into the published world, an author’s writing freedom is controlled to a certain extent. This means edits and what not. It’s one of the reason why most Web novels differ a bit than their LN version.
Gate is one of the example.

There’s this horrible horrible side of me that kind of hopes when the manga eventually reaches this point, that they at least tackle it somewhat. No off-page reference, or time skip, or something. Naofumi’s reaction to this is pretty valuable to understand just how serious he is with his wagers. Even just showing a silhouette of each execution with Naofumi observing would suffice.
He knows if he loses at this point that all of his close allies, like Raphtalia and Firo, will be the first target most of his enemies would hunt down, we all saw it back when the stakes weren’t this high during the first duel between him and Motoyasu. He’s dead set on doing everything he can to protect this world for Raphtalia and the others to live in peace, and whatever wager his opponent makes he’s willing to match it.
So when your opponent is now “god” and he wagers destroying the entirety of your world and many other worlds with it, you can bet Naofumi would wager the complete obliteration of this god in kind.

The manga might show the execution but that depends on the light novel, which I heard differs from the Web novel we are reading. The thing is, when it comes to Web novels, the author has near complete freedom on his writing. But if you want to venture to the published world, there’s a limit on what you can do. This mean edits and what not. Sooo…the execution might not even exists at all.
I think that’s one of the reason why the Web novel and LN differs.

Well considering all the deaths and destruction he’s caused, I don’t feel a sliver of pity for Tact, but this whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That’s because people like Tact’s mother aren’t just people related to Tact, they are also people with their thoughs, ideals and actions.
And while I can understand executing people that took part in the war, tormenting and killing people who didn’t take part in the war and whose crime was just knowing the wrong person (not to mention that the whole of Faubley supported that person, so knowing him is really what gets them executed) is just wrong.
As Naofumi said, if you shoot you must have the resolve to get shot at, but unlike him, Raphtalia, Tact or the biggest part of Tact’s harem, there were people who didn’t shoot, so they shouldn’t need to have the resolve to be shot at.

that is true but they give full support to him, as mentioned, when they announced tact win the war.. as motoyasu said there are many pigs.. giving support same as reload the bullet for tact to shot.. so they share the same fate

The bad taste is kinda the purpose. Like Natsumi said, if it doesn’t make you cringe, then there’s something wrong with you.
Anyway, executing the entire family of the perpetrator/traitor/leader of rebellion isn’t a foreign concept in our world and has been done many times in the past.
Why?
To prevent future vengeance by those that survived. The mother that survived might be become so obsessed with vengeance that she would do anything for revenge and chances are, she might succeed. Never underestimate someone that has nothing to lose.
Plus, most of the time, the entire family is involved in a conspiracy/coup/rebellion even if they didn’t fight on the front lines and that makes them equally guilty.

Legalistically speaking, Tact AND his followers explicitly demonstrated Actus Reus, the commission of mass murder to achieve world domination, and Mens Rea, the intent to commit such acts. Human rights attorneys would also be able to argue a multitude of human rights violations such as crimes against humanity and genocide. Regardless of what people feel, I understand that nowadays the trend seems to be to increase severity of punishment for offenders due to “increasing crime” (which is COMPLETE BS when you actually look at statistics; THEY ARE DROPPING, NOT INCREASING), and many people are admonished at the severity of Tact’s punishment. Nevertheless, for the tens of thousands of lives taken, is this severity not proportionate to the crime? According to Beccarria’s Classical School of thought, punishment must be swift, certain, and severe to be effective… Food for thought! :)

Not to mention everyone being executed were caught because THEY SHOWED UP.
“Tact won! Everyone come here for the celebration! (Suckers!)”
If they had just stayed home reading books instead, they wouldn’t be here.
So there you go. Books save lives. You’re reading a web novel right now. Therefore you are not at risk for a long and agonizing execution.

Since author likes torture executions sooo much he should write an alternate universe where Naofumi’s attempt to take over the world is stopped by a coalition and Naofumi can watch Raph, Kiel, Firo, Sadine, Wyndia, RIshia and the rest of his slave harem get taken apart piece by piece. Make him watch Atlas get murder-raped by the Faubley King. But ONLY the women. Literally can’t emphasize that enough. Cuz JUSTICE and PEACE haha.
Naofumi want revenge. Naofumi AAAAANGRY…. Fuck that’s nasty, lemme look over here….damn what about….ooooh eeew what a evil country. Shit lemme put my hands over my ears “LALALALAALA.” Man I’m such a villain.
I mean this is hilarious. A solid story marred by an author’s clumsy attempt to toss in some edgy grimdark. How many victims does the evil king have? OVER 9000!! I thought the clown in Akame Ga Kill was bad but this is on another level. “Oniiiii-chaaaan” ROFL are yall seriously buying this?!

“A solid story marred by an author’s clumsy attempt to toss in some edgy grimdark.” I’ll state it another way. These execution scenes are torture-gore porn entirely for fan service.
Brazen Bull and Iron Maiden devices are myths. Drawn and Quartering was reserved for regicide so that would’ve been Tact. Burning at the stake victims were strangled before being burned most the time. Even then death by carbon monoxide poisoning before flames ever hit was what usually happened. Impalement and Sulfuric Acid? Yeah lets just toss those in there.
Moving on past the gratuitous torture, the end result of many wars (not just the medieval time period) is that the ruling class is forced to give up its titles and exiled or are forced to pledge loyalty. In rare cases a ruler might get executed. Atrocities like what “the good guys” committed is how you get rebellions, terrorists, and 1000’s of years of sectarian warfare (hello Middle East). Something our oh so wise King Trash and hero from the future Naofumi ought to know. Oh wait Naofumi is a 20 yr. old otaku that doesn’t know jack shit outside of manga, anime, and video games. Oh well.
I guess this world is being run by the Ming Dynasty, Ivan the Terrible, Timur, and King Henry VIII all at the same time. Fun fact none of their reigns ended well.
Btw thx for translating.

I totally agree with you. If winning the war means killing all of the loser’s families and relatives, i think that you’ll be no different from them, even if they kill your families. In the Middle Age there are very few wars that after they win they kill all the people related to the king. And in public execution, they DON’T TORTURE, just a swift death. You know the pain of losing the ones you love, and you still want them to experience the same thing, then you’re not that different from them. Even if you win the war, you don’t KILL all the soldiers and the people that participated in the war, you just execute the ones at the top and imprison the others. In the most cruel war, known as the WW2, the leader of the Italy isn’t tortured when hanged(at least not in public), and only the family members that stay with him in the world were executed, NOT THE WHOLE FAMILY. The way of thinking that just because they did something bad to you, you can do anything you like to them is just wrong. What they just did is no different from a tyrant do, and i don’t think the WISE KING and Naofumi is that sort of person, but somehow they agree to it, which makes me think that this chapter is so bad. I know i sound like a hypocrite, but this is my true feeling.
I’m sorry for my bad grammars and English.

You’re thinking about the wrong place, and time period. In the middle ages, it was anything but swift. They didn’t kill soldiers, just all that would rebel, i.e. the women who loved Tact. Finally, yes, they did kill families back then. I’m not sure where you’re getting your sugar-coated information, dude.

Middle ages were brutal but they weren’t a constant torture festival like Hollywood would like you to believe either. The only people that would have been executed based on punishments for regicide in Western medieval history are Tact, Bitch, and members of the ambush party (including the men).
Governments deciding to execute a bunch of women and children including non-combatants is over the top but there’s precedent so I’ll buy it. Deciding to torture everyone made me lol. His moral musings on it are flat out silly. Black and white scenarios aren’t easy to come by but turning little girls into popsicles is a pretty easy one for %99.99 of people. Even that quote was asinine. “Those who are allowed to shoot are only those with the resolve to get shot,” So uh why are you executing non-combatants?
Add in the torture of people that probably would’ve been useful fighting against the Wave and it makes even less since from a military perspective. Tokugawa Ieyasu executed an entire family but he ALSO converted defeated enemies into loyal subordinates. It would’ve probably been pretty damn easy to convert most of Tacts harem into loyal followers once they realized they were fighting against the real “heroes.” It would’ve at least been worth an attempt w/ the fate of the world hanging in the balance and stronger waves incoming. The icing on the cake is the land of Faubley itself. These people were religiously devoted to Tact and thought he was a God right? So even if I were inclined to believe all the above happened it still wouldn’t work without the “pacification” of Faubley and tens of thousands of dead bodies. I have an easier time believing a girl got absorbed into a shield.
PS Devil – There were public executions that included torture. Sometimes the sentence would be reduced to hanging. Not easy watching a man get his entrails pulled out live.

Those woman were only executed after they explicitly refused to deny Tact. What’s more, they specifically gathered to celebrate his victory. With their Religious following, as you said, they were not going to revoke him. Tact never combated the waves once (That was all Naofumi), so they had no inclination to help the world, and how the hell are you going to convince them that Naofumi is the true hero, hell, Naofumi himself doesn’t consider himself a Hero. So you optimistically keep on telling yourself it will all work out? If you left but a single one of them alive, do you know how much that would increase the chance of there being rebellion by, and do you think these people have the time for such shenanigans? Most of the torture, while for amusement, was also to break Tact’s heart to prove the existence of one who brought him forth, so there’s that as well. And let’s not forget that Tact’s Harem was pretty much his political cabinet. Ah, I think I’m going off track. Anyways people don’t change so easily.
On another note, you’re looking to the wrong place. China and Japan did in fact have public torture/executions. They were mainly meant as public humiliation, and focused on keeping you alive and suffering for as long as possible so as to break your heart soul, and pretty much every internal organ in your body. They were done in public places so the most people could see you and humiliate you, and the people rejoiced. They rejoiced at seeing the people they hated tortured. They laughed at their deaths. And this continued until the 18th century. Not that it matters to you, because everything is all peachy in the world, and it always has been.

Well since everyone is giving their opinions, I mght as well give mine. Did Tact and his allies, that is to say anyone that fouht and the supported the war, deserve what they got? Probably. Do I find killing the family unreasonable? Not really, nipping the bud and all that. Was torture for the family excessive? A little bit.
Other than that, meh, it happened. I just want to say, thank you Yorai for keeping the integrity of this chapter, I feel it broadened my horizons a bit and made me reflect on my own morals a bit. A lot of media, tragedies, etc try to force people to see the moral of the story, but it’s rare that I find a work that I can read for fun, but also makes me want to evaluate my own morals without jeopardizing my enjoyment of the series. So yeah, thanks Yorai.

“Those woman were only executed after they explicitly refused to deny Tact.” A few fought but when were most given that chance? They literally did a sting operation and started executing them the next day. No indication of any kind of trial which they did have back then. I’ve never said the world was all peachy. The Crusades, American Indian Genocide, Unit 731, Kosovo gov’t sanctioned rapes, Holocaust, Boko Haram, ISIS, etc. you can go on and on and on from BC to present day if you wanted to. But this chapter imo is pretty much a caricature of medieval justice.
Funny how all the believers in karma that thought this was justified have a problem with the original ending though. I liked it and stopped reading there. :) Have a good one.

I don’t think it would make any difference even if he were to read the next chapter.
People like him tend to forget the huge differences between our current world’s standards and a fiction’s. Ivote4torture just can’t understand one of the objectives why the execution was done in the first place.
One of the reasons and the biggest one was to show the people of Faubley of who was in charge now and dishearten their spirit for future rebellions. If the winners didn’t do what they did, then the tact and Faubley supremacy faction might rise again the future. Furthermore, people tend to forget that the people in this story has magical powers and that makes them way more dangerous to let live than the criminals in our world.
It’s like nitpicking on GoT again.

my opinion that purposefully forcing a person to watch as their familys or loved ones are brutally killed is worse than simply killing or causing their deaths of a persons loved ones and saying that its no less than the 2nd is bs since the first ones crueler and worse since its done to make that person suffer. people who say that what happened to tact is no less than what he did to other people is bs. what happened to tact is horrible and no one deserves that

You are missing the bigger picture here. It’s not all about Tact but other people as well. More specifically, those that used to support him; the people of Faubley.
It is to dishearten them, making them think that if they try to exact vengeance for Tact or their country, the price they have to pay will be too high for them to bear.
You also need to remember that this is a world where people have access to supernatural abilities, so leaving potential criminals alive is a very big risk compared to our world. Look what happens when they let Witch alive?
The executions serve as a prevention than cure for a disease that they cannot afford to get afflicted by at the moment or in the future.
