Sevens: The Fourth’s Memory

The Fourth’s Memory

I watched the memories flow by in the room the Third had dragged me to.

He usually came off as quite aloof, but I was able to understand why he ended up standing on the battlefield.

With less than fifty soldiers following his lead, the Third launched his attack while using his Skills.

And around him, a few thousand soldiers joined the march… no, rather than that, knights with conspicuous attire began appearing.

And among them, the Third’s troops disappeared.

“This is…”

I watched the scene, and the Fourth looked at the ground around them.

『So you were even capable of producing shadows for them?』

The Third pridefully pushed out his chest.

『That’s right. This is my Skill… it’s final stage: 【Dream】. A skill to show off an illusion of reality. Though it’s ability to do actual damage is… nonexistent, perhaps?』

Looking at the Third’s face when he said that, I swallowed my spit.

“… In a book I read before, a blindfolded person was made to touch a normal bar of iron, and was convinced he received actual burns, but…”

There, the Third nodded.

『Well that’s quite an extreme example there. In truth, there’s no guarantee it’ll ever succeed. And…』

The Remlrandt soldiers they were fighting began to notice the trickery.

『Oy, these guys are just illusions!』
『There’s someone here using a Skill!』
『Where are the injured! The Skillholder should be around there!』

Noticing they were fighting mere phantasms, the knights began regaining their composure.

And within all of that, the Third found their commander and drew his sword.

Leaping off from his horse, the man swung down his sword.

The Third beside me began explaining the scene.

『The First’s Skill, and the Second’s… I inherited them all. By mouth. They were scared to leave written records. But that ended up backfiring. The enemy was too strong. Even I knew it would be impossible with a single blow.』

The commander who fell off his horse from the Third’s attack screamed out.

『What cowardice! You malingering Bahnseim dogs!』

『I won’t deny that one, but we can’t be losing here!』

While cutting down the elite guards swarming about him, the Third fought with the army’s supreme commander.

He would create illusions of himself about him and make sport of his opponent.

I looked around and noticed the source of my own unease.

“The Remlrandt soldiers are…”

The Third spoke.

『Fighting one another, right? That’s also a Skill of mine: 【Control】.』

The Fourth put his hand to his face.

『You really are an underhanded one.』

The Third whispered, ‘there was no helping it.’

『Unless I used it, we would have lost. I didn’t want to have to, but… the battlefield wasn’t far from our territory. If the enemy continued on with their momentum, it would all have been taken over.』

So even something like that was covered up by the Bahnseim of the time.

(The fact they all fought for justice was a lie, it seems.)

And as I went through some inevitable sentiment, the situation around began to change.

Allies fell dead one after another.

Their numbers were too different from the start. And having lost the leisure to do so, the Third had stopped producing his illusions.

And the lowered battle axe of the commander sent the Third’s right arm flying through the air.

“No, that one’s an illusion?”

In an earnest face, the Third.

『And that’s yet another way to use it.』

The Third’s sword was now deeply embedded in the commander’s chest.

The animosity of those around began to gather on him.

Perhaps out of Mana, the Third was swaying on his feet.

All that was left was for him to be killed or taken.

Chaos was beginning to break out in the Remlrandt army that had lost its leader.

At that moment.

『Young master!』

A few bloodstained soldiers ran up to him with a horse. They forcefully lifted him onto it.

『Please be off!』

『… Yeah.』

With a hollow expression, the Third was using the last of his power to conceal their actions. The raining magic fell onto illusory men, and the arrows pierced the same.

And the soldiers that let the Third escape were…

“Why… after being so harsh in the Second’s time…”

They had died while smiling.

The Third spoke.

『Lyle, those men did not die for me. For the land I governed, for their homelands, they threw down their lives. I’m sure they have their personal reasons as well, but the reason I was saved was because it would be best for the territory.』

I thought it was quite a cold opinion. It was only then that the Bahnseim main force began to surround the Remlrandt army.

Witnessing the scene, the Third clenched his fist. He put all his strength into clenching it.

It seems he had yet to find satisfaction with the outcome.

(That’s why he hates them so…)

From the front, the force that retreated had managed to regroup, and attacked with cavalry at its center.

Magic came down on the Remlrandt forces, and their formation was too disorderly for them to make any proper moves.

And like that, they were encircled, and assailed with crushing blows.

The scene changed once more, and there was the Walt House’s encampment.

It seems that quite some time had passed from the battle.

Lying down, the Third was quite worn away from arrows and magic attacks.

Nobles and the kings entered his tent, and thanked him while he couldn’t even give a proper reply.

Seeing his own sickly form, the Third…

『Why can’t they just let me rest already. Good grief…』

He seemed quite fed up.

The Fourth was staring at the entrance to the Tent.

And while the Third’s final moments were approaching…

A Fourth in his teens curst in.

『… Max… I’m sorry. Really… sorry… here…』

Accepting the blue jewel the Third held out, the Fourth let out rough breaths clenched his fists, and wept. And it all stopped moving.

Everything around was dyed a drab gray, and the Third started to speak.

『I didn’t die for anyone’s sake. In order to protect my own territory, I made others sacrifices to the best plan I could think up to win the war. It’s because I knew it was impossible for the others. The only one capable of cheating their way through was me.』

On the Third’s joking tone, the Fourth seemed to want to say something.

The Third spoke.

『Now then, that’s where my story ends. You understand it was never anything so simple now, right? And what I wanted to protect… nah, I’ll leave it at that. I’m sure you understand it well enough.』

And with those words, I returned to the room with the circular table.

Only me and the Fourth were there.

The Third holed himself in his room, it seems.

The Fourth took off his glasses, and began to wipe them off.

『… Lyle, since we’re here, you’re seeing my memories as well.』

I couldn’t refuse.

The scene I saw upon entering the Fourth’s room was one with the young Fourth receiving the report of the Third being in danger.

A mud-covered and unsteady knight spoke of the Third’s attack.

The one crying as he told the tale was the young knight the Third had punched away.

『Sleigh-sama assailed the enemy camp… the difference in numbers is hopeless… I deeply apologize! I truly apologize!』

Dismissing the sobbing knight was a woman in her thirties.

She was probably the Third’s wife.

『Go get some rest. That man is really… Max, resolve yourself. Based on how the war goes, the enemies may be coming our way.』

Unable to comprehend the situation, the Fourth spoke dumbfounded.

『That’s a lie, right? I mean, father always came home just fine. He’d throw out some complaints, and say that he already worked enough for the rest of his life, so someone else should go do it… always…』

The next messenger arrived.

A knight rushed into the mansion, and removed his helmet.

『The Bahnseim army has come out victorious! Sleigh-sama stalled the enemy, and bought enough time for his allies to regain their formation!』

The Third’s wife.

『And what about the man himself?』

There, the knight…

『He has returned, but his injuries are severe… I’ve only been ordered to report the situation.』

And to the Fourth, the wife…

『Max, take your attendants and head to that man at once.』

Just as he was told, the Fourth and those around began preparations to leave.

The scene changed, and the Fourth was galloping out with several knights.

As I watched the Fourth’s impatient face, he spoke.

『It was at this moment. The time that my Skill manifested. I just wanted to get there as fast as I could. I just wanted to see my father. With those thoughts on my mind, the Skill came to be.』

Arriving ahead of schedule, he ran over to the Third.

Once that ended, the Fourth changed the scenery again.

It was a road that went on without end.

『The battlefield was quite close by. It really was a bother. And now I can only feel stupid about feeling so in debt to the main cause of all of this.』

The Fourth corrected the positioning of his glasses with his index finger. They caught the light.

『How about I teach you my next Skill. I’m sure you can master is in no time, Lyle.』

I ended up learning a Skill from the Fourth.

But it wasn’t anything all too difficult.

『Well, fundamentally, what comes after raising your own speed, is lowering your opponents, right?』

As the Fourth said that, he showed me by example.

My feet suddenly began to feel heavy.

As if I was moving in water… no, the resistance was greater than that.

『Skill 【Up n’ Down】. Control all speed to your will. Drop your enemies, and raise your own. It’s simple, but the difference it creates isn’t a small one.』

It didn’t have the flashiness the Third’s showed off, but even so, it was an amazing Skill.

If used in a large-scale battlefield along with the Second’s, it was one that would instantly give on the advantage.

“It’s amazing.”

『… Though not as much as the Third’s.』

And I asked something that had been on my mind.

“Um, the Third said something about Skills being handed down by mouth, or something…”

『Yeah, I heard what sort of Skill they were, but the Third died off before he could say the rest… the effective uses of the First’s, Second’s, and Third’s Skills were never handed through the Walt House. But they were quite useful none the less. Didn’t have much trouble after that.』

Thinking about that, I realized my luck in being taught the Skills like this.

Skills that should have been lost were revived, and at the same time, I learned the memories behind them.

It all started at that moment.

I’m sure it started in motion when I heard the voices at Zell’s house.

After the Fourth finished his explanation of his Skill’s uses, he addressed me.

『Lyle, personally, I want you to regain the territory. Because I’m quite attached to it.』

“… That’s…”

I found it hard to give an answer, so he went on.

『That’s all I have to say for now. It seems the Third just wants you to be free. The Fifth is the same. But me and the Sixth, and the Seventh want you to take inherit the land we loved.』

I was driven out.

As I thought that, he spoke.

『But after seeing the Third’s memory, I’ve done some thinking. You can do whatever you want, but make sure you protect what’s important to you.』

“… Yes.”

He smiled.

『I see. Well, you’ve got Novem-chan and everyone else, so I’m sure it’ll be hell.』

“That wasn’t my will! … Hah, no, it’s nothing.”

I became sullen, and the Fourth laughed.

And for some strange reason, I began to laugh as well.

Opening my eyes, I felt a light fatigue.

Having seen the Third’s and Fourth’s memories last night, I was forced to think over things even if I didn’t want to.

It wasn’t the battle of a heroic tale.

The Third to protect what he had to, the Fourth manifesting a Skill to make it in time for his father’s end.

I raised the upper half of my body, stretched, and looked outside.

The sunlight was blinding, and after exiting the bed, I opened the window.

Centralle was noisy. Various voices and the sounds of life rung out.

“Now then, what should I do today?”

I started on the preparations to venture to Beim, but there wasn’t anything particularly troublesome about that.

We were also gathering intelligence, but it wasn’t anything too dangerous.

What piqued my interest more was the capital itself.

According to Miranda and Shannon, it held a sense of discomfort it hadn’t before.

It’s nothing I could understand, but the two that lived here could feel something off.

(But Aria didn’t say anything in particular… come to think of it, I get the feeling she said she was going out shopping or something today.)

Remembering her plans on shopping, I outfitted myself, and thought to assist her.

Novem was arranging our luggage, and Clara was circling around bookstores today.

To carry out modifications on Porter, Monica was staying over at the warehouse we borrowed.

“I’ll have to stop by there as well.”

While worrying whether she’d go haywire, I gave a smile.

(Things I want to protect, is it…)

… A road not far from the Imperial Capital.

There was the form of a worn out group receiving emergency rations from the Walt House’s soldiers.

For the sake of the group that followed behind, they were offering up their foodstuffs.

The reason they were so worn out was because a monster attack had claimed a large number of lives.

Many were injured, and a few of them had lost most of their supplies.

Among the merchants, some of them were making pale faces.

Within the midst of that group, Celes walked in a white flowing coat.

With warm-looking clothing, and a smile just as warm, she waved her hands to those around.

“Thank you for saving us.”
“It’s as if she’s a goddess.”
“I give my deepest gratitude.”

After she went through the trouble of personally stepping out, those around continued voicing words of gratitude.

Celes was in quite a good mood.

Behind her walked a knight in even higher spirits.

It was Alfred.

At his hip hung the dagger she had offered as a reward.

Celes thought.

(Without even knowing why they were attacked, they offer me thanks… it really is an interesting spectacle. It sure does feel good after one does a good thing.)

Receiving thanks, being revered… Celes truly was in a good mood.

She had requested her parents to set a monster on the group trailing behind.

And as the Walt House knights and soldiers rose to fight it, they received the gratitude of all.

She held in her urge to laugh, and stroked the hilt of the rapier at her waist.

No, what she was stroking was the yellow gem portion of it.

To such a good-humored young lass, Alfred called out.

“Celes-sama, it’s time.”

Celes tilted her head slightly in doubt, and a sound like the gulping of spit resounded in the area.

As eyes filled with malice began to fall on Alfred, Celes smiled.

“That’s no good, Alfred. From here on out, the people of Bahnseim are to become my people as well.”

Returning his expression to a serious one, Alfred spoke.

“As expected of the ever compassionate Celes. Now the two of them are waiting for you.”

Celess seemed a little fed up.

“Good grief. Father and mother have their troubles, I see.”

Alfred spoke.

“It’s because it’s an important moment. And the dignified sight of Celes-sama in the imperial court… we are waiting in anticipation.”

Stroking the yellow gem, she smiled…

“Right. I mean… it’s the day Bahnseim will become mine after all.”

    Nice chapter, thanks!

Can’t wait for the day where Lyle will kick her ass… probably not going to be any time soon.
And thank you for the chapter, Yoraikun.

she is the last boss of this novel (plus I still think that she may just be the same as the bitch from the hero of the shield (a evil goddess pretending to be the daughter of some noble and ruining people’s lives just for fun), I’m more curious about the second and third stages of lyle skill….something related to experience… what could it be?

      • Manthin says:

Maybe something like copying opponents abilities after experiencing how they work? or perhaps some other manifestation due to “experiencing” the memories of his ancestors?

  4. tonyorobsky says:

… What is that yellow gem? The origin of the monster?

  5. Nameless Reader says:

Is Celes manipulated or is she something like bi*tch?

    • lygarx says:

Bitch wasn’t being manipulated, she was an avatar of the goddess

      • Nameless Reader says:

i was refering weither she is wicked like b*tch but act after getting jewel or manipulated by jewel
but well let’s not spoil too much

      • Sean says:

So this is a knock off of shield hero or are you joking? Because that would kind of suck. I like the manipulation by the yellow jewel better as a twist.

        • Countrymage says:

Skills are awakened by strong desires or needs, gems help in awakening skills of corresponding types, she has probably gotten drunk on the power she gained/awakened through that gem. Also, history being cyclical in this story, she might be possessed of the same personality as the incompetent king from the Third’s time, or queen(?) from the First’s.

        • greedxviii says:

          It’s speculation. Calm down.

        • Colin says:

Or that yellow gem could be like Lyle’s blue one, it just has the skill and personality of the previous Monster in it. And getting the powers and coached by a monster is bound to warp ones personality a little

        • lygarx says:

I never said that. I was only clarifying that Bitch from Shield Hero wasn’t being manipulated. It may seem like it, but she was actually the disguised goddess in human form. I was only correcting a misconception of a shield hero fact used in their reference. I made no connection to the two series.
And I do like the manipulation by the jewel concept. If she inherited the memories of that evil queen from when the Grandfather got the blood of a royal of a previous kingdom when she was a child, in a sense, she may have had the personality overwritten before she developed her own ego/personality. It would explain why she is so evil and more powerful than him. This is like a kind of story where you have to fight your evil sibling and it turns out they gained their power in the same way you did.

        • Gitami says:

It would sure suck if her desire for power was she could help lift Lyle’s burden of being the successor so he’d have more time to play with her.

        • digimaster6662000 says:

If that was her motive, then she wouldn’t be such a cold-blooded sociopath.

    • ArKain says:

Powerful gems would probably go to the first son first and foremost, so at the time of getting the gem she likely was already controlling the parents (unless she somehow found that herself… how easy would it be to find a family heirloom though?). Either the gem hasn’t awakened or if it has, it isn’t the cause for her personality.

      • ryuutobi says:

Nah, it’s probably the same as Aria’s red gem. When Alice married into Lockwarde family, they already had a gem so the red gem was passed to the family’s woman instead.

        • ArKain says:

Lyle didn’t have a gem at that time though (that old guy had it), so it should have gone to him as otherwise he wouldn’t have one.

  6. lygarx says:

maybe the yellow gem was why she became so powerful in the first place

    • diegodeveze says:

I’ve thought so for a while. I mean, she used elementary magic that surpassed Lyle’s mid-level magic. I thought for sure she was using some sort of ”Magic Buffer” skill from her yellow gem, as well as a suggestion/brainwashing one that warped the surrounding’s outlook/thoughts.
      Also her ungodly speed.
Idk, those sound like support skills, but still.

  7. Maybe the yellow gem is like Lyle blue jewel

  8. GonZ555 says:

Ooh.. she had a yellow gem… thats why she got twisted peraonality? Because of the predecesor of the yellow gem?

Thank you for the chapter yoraikun

  9. lenyekpenyek says:

If her skill is ‘charm’, that would really be a troublesome one. Doesn’t inclde the gem’s skills yet.

And if she uses the skill to be the queen of the country, then Lyle need a big army to go against her too. I’m guessing Lyle will go to a neighbouring country and ‘somehow’ get a princess into his harem lol.

That is what I think, I’m sure the author will exceed my expectations… always

If I were to venture a guess, Charm and some sort of self exp buff similar to Lyle’s.
That would explain her ridiculous growth.
Speaking of growths… I wonder what Cele’s growth is like XD

      • necrosis says:

this is just a joke but I suspect if you thought of a dominatrix that would be celes on her growths just thinking of it makes me want to crush her skull

      • Bobenstein says:

I imagine she consciously or unconsciously manipulated his ability while he was always in that daze or disillusioned state and enjoyed his personal exp buff ability while he was suppressed all that time. Then when she was confident in her power she disposed of him wether aware of his ability or not.

There’s no telling when his ability awoke exactly and she did get very powerful, very fast after all.

        • tyizor says:

If it was consciously, the fool set herself up for disaster. Intelligent Overlord rule book clearly states not to sew obvious seeds of resentment among talented individuals (and if you do, nip the buds early)

The information is clearly pointing towards some kind of mind manipulation skill, but yellow is supposed to be long ranged, not support… not enough info >.>

Regardless, Lyle should have received proper anti-mind control countermeasures already, so that’s one potential base covered.

    • Germ says:

charm totally seems like a support skill. yellow should be long ranged. so she can’t have charm from the gem.
also if she got the gem before getting her skill she should have a long ranged skill because of the effect of the gem.
she could have gotten charm before getting the gem but… things started to change when she was eight. isn’t that a little early for awakening a skill?

    • DarknessWolf says:

What are you saying! It is the princesses (maybe priestesses too) not the princess! I think. :)

  10. cwoverclock says:

She is the worst and is at the same level as Bitch. I think someone said that she had her circumstances and would feel sorry for her later, but I won’t. Even if she was being manipulated I’ll still hate her. Just get beat down by Lyle!

    • naleastie says:

I find it hard to compare the two of them though… both are obnoxious and manipulative, but Bitch felt more like a leech, a parasite (a freaking annoying and persisting one); while Celes actually does the work herself. She did kick out her brother out of..contempt?, but she was not hiding the fact she didn’t like him unlike Bitch who actually betrayed/humiliated/framed him for no reasons.

But that’s just details… both are just trash lol

      • Manthin says:

Yeah I agree, Bitch was an annoying parasite, while so far Celes is a reasonable final villain

        Liked by 1 person

      • diegodeveze says:

And that’s an important contrast. I absolutely hate Bitch, but she’s a more of a third-rate villain for the most part; a ”pathetic hate pit” kind of character since you know she’s inferior to the protagonist and no matter what she’s doing, you know he could rekt her, but Celes is different. I mean, the hate part is mostly the same, but Celes feels so… unfathomable or impregnable, like a natural disaster kind of villain, and that births frustration in the reader, since we’ve been led to believe Lyle can do nothing against her (and he probably can’t, even if he can, due to his trauma with her).

It’s like she can do anything without repercussions, and that makes me hate her all the more.

  11. naleastie says:

Wasn’t the yellow gem someone’s from the previous chapters? But just watching her is painful. I do wonder why she’s going that far though.. is she just the epitome of evil? lol

    • Countrymage says:

She had that gem in the first chapter already, it’s the knife she gave away that was pre-owned. I can’t remember what type of skills came from yellow gems, but that is probably where her power over everyone is coming from.

    • Germ says:

if by going that far you mean conquering the country… that’s pretty standard for a human being. how many coup d’etat (is it written like this?), wars, etc. did people cause? a lot of people would like to become a king/queen.
if you meant the thing with the guys that were following her group… yeah, pretty twisted

      • naleastie says:

Yeah, more like what she does to people she doesn’t even know. Coup d’états are pretty common, but SHE is going to make a lot of people suffer. She is just hateful.

        • Sean says:

It’s not hateful but a level of superiority that she honestly believes because of her power and lineage that no one can stand against her. It’s the type of mentality that we all have in one way or another, but unlike Celes we don’t have power to back it up so that side of us gets pushed down and or aside.
It’s hard for the weak and poor to understand how the strong and rich think.

        • naleastie says:

It’s one thing to have pride in who you are, but just because you’re stronger/smarter doesn’t mean you can/will bully the others. But I get your point!

          It’s such a funny thing. 😋

  12. diablo says:

    Thanks for the chapter!

  13. Let’s assume her yellow gem is a [Jewel]. It means she could speak with her ancestor which was ‘a monster’ aiming for a rebellion(?) and rule the kingdom. That said, the yellow gem records the skill for rear guards which may or may not include [Mind] related skill (Remember that the third’s [Mind] is in the support tree).
Also, Lyle’s [Jewel] is not embedded into a weapon. That way, Lyle’s [Jewel] can transform into several weapons of his ancestors for a brief moment. It could be that Celes’ [Jewel] is continuously in the transformation form, but this means Celes’ mana is WAAAAY higher than Lyle’s. In that case, she could easily kill Lyle in one hit back in prologue.

    What do you think?
-is the yellow gem a [Jewel]?
-does it have a [Mind] related skill?
-why is it embedded in a rapier?
-how does Celes’ power compared to Lyle’s?
-why did she play around with Lyle back in prologue?

    • necrosis says:

      1.probably not
      2. most likely if not definite
      3. also about the rapier Lyle is the only one whose jewel can do that because it was an add on bought by the seventh not something gems can do normally so Celes’ weapon is a regular rapier well not regular just not a transforming one
      4. if it hasn’t changed she is probably weaker than the current Lyle and he is far more versatile
      5. arrogance and superiority

    • Germ says:

      1 maybe
2 i thought rearguard skills were something like long-ranged attacks. mind, charm and similar feel like support
3 same as the guy above
4 i think she is at the very least as strong as lyle. lyle didn’t work that much on swordmaship so she sould still be stronger. she was better at magic and had more mana, while lyle’s mana didn’t change much (he had two growths but the gem and his skill drain him). lyle has skills now, but she has a gem and didn’t use skills back then so… it depends.
5 good question? if she really had something like charm and found it didn’t work on lyle she should have killed him… so maybe she didn’t charm him just for fun (like the things she did inthis chapter). or maybe that’s not charm but something else and he was really just an eyesore/nuisance

      • necrosis says:

last comment then I sleep rear guard skills can also be non chanting spells so it could be a rearguard skill that is a certain magic to control people

    • DarknessWolf says:

Wait why you guy say that the gem power ONLY! She from Walt too RIGHT! And with TWO OF MONSTERS BLOOD MIX!

      • necrosis says:

I just answered the questions but I do agree celes probably went through 2-4 growths before her fight with Lyle probably why he lost so badly she probably has little to no skill and relies on raw power from being a monster and Walt bloodline

      • Vemmy says:

Wait, she has two of monster’s blood? Where was this?!

        • Sean says:

The second blood line with importance might be Basil Walt’s first wife. Which might explain why Novem family has been so loyal to them throughout the past 9 generations.

    • Manthin says:

Celes gem might not even have any memories in it to begin with, the actual memories of the ancestors in Lyle’s jewel might be from Lyle’s skill’s [experience] 2nd ability or something like that, since him learning skills has a lot to do with him “experiencing” the memories/past of the previous jewel wielders.

    • gman says:

      4. she’s obviously weaker than Lyle. Lyle had at least torned her clothes during their spar when she already had the jewel to begin with. Lastly, experiencing growth. If you look it on another perspective, Celes is such a spoiled brat kid who can’t experience growth because she finds everything easy.

  14. Raufgar says:

    Thanks for the chapter!

I thought so, that Celes’ actions were directed. After all, her (and incidentally Lyle’s) lineage is from the Bahnseim’s old royalty ie. the decendants of the king Sleigh (3rd) punched.

The question would be, when did they start ‘recording’ their Skills? As per the memories, Lyle was informed that line had a certain ‘degeneration’ to it, which one can likely attribute to the influence of the gem, if it was already present. Otherwise, that quirk would have been passed down to Celes from successive souls, regardless.

    Tis rather intriguing…

  15. swordbane says:

The yellow gem was designed for the rearguard in mind right? I wonder if her gem manifested personalities as well. We’ll need the power of Shannon-sama’s eyes to find out!

    • necrosis says:

Shannon already saw celes fully monster powered and was still puzzled at Lyles jewel so very unlikely that it is the yellow gem has a generation of ancestors as well. Still possible that the gem has one evil maniacal personality that took over but seems really unlikely with how badly Celes is playing this game. so the gem is probably not to blame she is probably a brat with way too much power

      • Actually, the first time Shannon sees Lyle’s mana she saw 7 ‘colors’ – That means 6 ancestor + Lyle. After some time, she could see the 1st’s ‘color’ in Lyle. So, it could be that all the ancestors already ‘passed on’ their skills.
It’s weird that her ancestors would approve of her in such a young age though, but I dunno, I just don’t want the last boss(?) to be so simple and weak. She had such a grand background too.

      • diegodeveze says:

I remember Shannon describing Celes’ mana as unfathomable and ”like a blinding light”, so maybe that thing obscured the potential jewel-dweller lights in Celes.

  16. necrosis says:

well that pretty much confirms she has a suggestion skill in her arsenal and I’m looking forward to how she reacts when she finds out Lyle felled a gryphon and people begin to question if she is actually better than Lyle
Also truly a sad moment with the third on his death bed and the fourth rushes to his side this is in a movie but I can’t really recall it now but still very upsetting

  18. nefferit says:

Oooh! Yellow gem can be the same as Lyle. I reckon that 6th had mentioned that Lyle is descedants of old/previous/maybe now royal bloodline. So it determines that celes is the same as his sister. So it might be related to this point how it has become.

The Edgy Bitch is coming huh.

    Yoraikun you the best! :3

  21. Nordlending says:

    This is interesting

  22. smile says:

Red is for Vanguard, Blue is for Support, Yellow is for Rearguard. As such, we can only assume that her skill gem is either a jewel, or a gem, but in both cases should not have an ability that can affect the mind on a wide-scale, but rather allow her to be protected and attack from afar. Her being a monster has likely no relationship to the jewel.

Thank you for the chapter, I’m excited to see the Monster in action.

    • Germ says:

what if “monster” refers to people with a jewel?
people with nine fully mastered skills and nine people’s worth of experience.
i mean, right now lyle with all his abilities and the ancestors’ wisdom could probably do what celes is doing, it’s just that he isn’t interested

  23. nosiop says:

    Thanks for the chapter.

  24. Well yellow gem scary!

  25. Chronos5884 says:

    Thanks for the chapter!

  26. Celes’ yellow gem most likely a Jewel, the same class as Lyle’s, This one most likely handed down from count’s wife to count’s wife, start from that princess in 7th, and awaken in Celes’ time. The original personalities might come from the chaotic times of “monsters”.

While Lyle appear relatively fine and in control of his faculties, Celes appear to be taken over by the dominant personality(ies). Probabbly show the difference between the two, even counting the benign spirits.

Her malice? A spoiled brat (same as Lyle) but got spoiled even more rotten by everyoneelse. Of course she will hate her main competitor, the older sibling. Other explaination would be she’s drunk with her powers.

  27. tigeryama says:

    Thanks for the chapter :D

  29. felipe says:

hum, maybe the yellow gem don’t have anything to do with her personality or the way she controls people and is just a normal gem that she is going to use to become more powerful (remembering that yellow gems store long range combat skills)

  30. Reaper Phoenix says:

    Thanks 4 the chapter!

The timing is tight. Will Lyle still be in the capital when Celes arrives?

  31. ynphenno says:

What if the 7 spirits of the walt house were revived by lyle skill ? The experience skill is not mean as exp but memory experience ?

  32. k says:

    thank for the update

  33. Fuannai says:

Maybe this Celes is still on post-growth state. Jk. She’s probably a part of a certain bitch goddess. We shall contact Naofumi and his Godslaying friends

  34. lightdx says:

    Thanks for the chapter. ^^
The Yellow gem…hum, i wonder if it is the cause of everything.

  35. I would not absolutely forgive anymore Celes when she killed the trio adventurers

  36. Seasoned Blog pros would love your posts. I discovered your blog on my Google Plus feed. When I browsed your article I could feel myself getting smarter. Who raised you? They deserve a medal for a job well done. Certainly a lot of details to take into consideration.

    Thanks for the chapter !!

  38. DarkoNeko says:

the wife sent the Fourth to see the dying Third but didn’t go herself ? I guess she can’t ride a horse.

The mention of a Yellow gem on the sword… did we hear about it before ?
I’m starting to think she got skills from there, possibly in a way similarily to Lyle. That’d partly explain the strenght disparity, but if the memories are also in her, maybe they had a bad influence.

  39. diegodeveze says:

    Fucking Celes…

Also, I somewhat saw this coming since the end of the first volume, but I’m still puzzled.
Well, we’ll just have to sit and wait to see if the siblings will reunite and how will that go should it happen.
The Fourth’s memory made me feel sad. Will the third stage of his skill be something like rapid thinking? You know, to be able to process the information when moving at high speeds.

  40. Seanna2k says:

Lyle going to meet Celes at this point is sheer suicide.

So, what's on your mind?
